People often act like you can either be strong, or you can be soft. Ya’ll are a smart bath of cookies, so I doubt that you believe this is true. You can be really strong, and have a really soft side. The trick is finding the balance. Here are my best tips:
-Recognize that puppies are cute, but grown dogs are where it is at. Literally, live your life like a well-loved golden retriever. Because not only are they helpful and sweet, they could also bite your face off.
-Hair is the easiest thing to make both strong and soft. It’s probably the only societal situation when people encourage both to live together. Influenster sent me this L’Oreal Paris Elvive hair serum stuff that I am literally obsessed with. If I could find a way to cover my life with this stuff then I would. But until then I’ll keep using it on my hair.
-Learn to say no. And then say yes to everything you actually want to do. Too many people learn to say no, and then are scared to go back to saying yes. Please keep in mind this requires observation of the situation etc.
-Spend as much time on Pinterest as you do on Twitter. Like you are cool, but also wholesome.
-Tip your barista. And waiter/waitress. And the homeless guy on the corner of the street. Money is seen as strength in our society. Giving it “away” is the biggest “I am becoming softer through a show of mightiness” power move we have.
